CMI review postponed until Nov. 1
Planning board still meets Wednesday on other
items

TAMWORTH — Club Motorsports Inc. was pulled from
Wednesday night's planning board agenda, shifting the next round of
talks on the track builder's wetlands permit to Nov. 1.
On that night at 7 p.m., Tamworth planners will continue their
much-anticipated review of CMI's controversial application at the K.A.
Brett School.
The Derry company has applied to build a 3.1-mile asphalt track and
country club-style driving getaway on the side of Mount Whittier. Plans
for the multi-million dollar marvel have drawn steady fire from
environmentalists and community groups, while winning praise from others
who say the town is starved for good jobs.
Last week, a filled gymnasium turned out for a public hearing, where
many predicting environmental fallout urged planners to reject the
application. The next portion of the bound-over meeting was scheduled to
open Wednesday night.
The board will still hold its regular meeting at the same time
Wednesday at the smaller town offices, but the board will not discuss
the project, town hall staff said. CMI almost always draws crowds,
requiring the larger venue.
Planners may or may not reach their decision on Nov. 1. |
