THREAT
TO LOCAL CONTROL CONTINUES Senate Bill
458, now RSA 287-G, was signed by former Governor Benson in
March 2004. By CMI's own admission, it was designed especially
to exempt CMI from Tamworth's Race Track Ordinance. See F: T press releases
and F: T press
coverage from May 2004 for background on the bill and its passage.
HB 90, sponsored by Tamworth representatives Harry Merrow and David
Babson, attempted to repeal RSA 287-G. It passed the NH House, but
failed in the Senate, so RSA 287-G is still in force.
Thanks to all in
Tamworth and elsewhere who worked so hard for passage of HB 90, and
especially to representatives Merrow and Babson, and representative Peter Schmidt of
Dover, who supported the bill vigorously in committee and on the House
floor.
We are watching
other bills in the legislature for additional threats to local control,
and weighing other legislative options of our own.
